Nothing says sci-fi like a bezel-less screen, and Xiaomi’s newly announced Mi Mix Android phablet is very sci-fi with its 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. This 6.4-inch device has just been announced as a concept phone by the Chinese company, but weirdly enough, it has a price, ¥3,499 ($516), and a release date of November 4th in its home country.
Think of every out-there spec you could cram into a phone and the Xiaomi Mi Mix probably has it. The rear of this handset and its side buttons are both made out of ceramic. The display is curved at the corners — just like that Sharp prototype we recently saw — and all the top-mounted sensors have been removed. The proximity sensor has been replaced by ultrasound, the earpiece has been replaced with a piezoelectric speaker that uses the metal frame to generate sound, and the front-facing camera is relocated to the bottom (though the phone can thankfully be rotated upside down for more flattering selfies).

Inside, the Mi Mix has the latest Snapdragon 821 chip that powers Google’s Pixels , 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Looking at the status bar above, the Mi Mix seems to also have support for two SIMs, a popular feature in China, and Xiaomi also notes it has a 192Hz / 24-bit DAC chip for higher-resolution audio. There’ll also be a ¥3,999 ($590) option with 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and 18-karat gold accents around the camera and fingerprint sensor on the rear of the Mix. The battery weighs in at a generous 4,400mAh, the rear camera comes in at 16 megapixels with phase-detect autofocus, and yes, the headphone jack is intact ("for now," as Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra jokes on Facebook ).
The big deal here, though, is really that design and the incredible display. Xiaomi recruited noted French designer Philippe Starck to lead the design effort — which, frankly, with a display like this basically left him to just say "keep it simple, stupid" for the rest of the device. The Xiaomi Mi Mix is said to launch on November 4th in China, but we can’t imagine there being a great many of them to go around. Hell, the devices held up on stage during Xiaomi's launch event were stuck at the same 8:16 time as on the press image above, so it's not certain that we've even seen a functional unit yet. Xiaomi itself calls the Mi Mix a concept phone ( as well as "a breathtaking work of art that surpasses existing innovations in the smartphone industry"), so the real devices should be quite the exclusive pieces of kit to find.

पिछले दिनों आपने पाकिस्तान से एक पेशकश की थी। आपका कहना था कि अगर पाकिस्तान को कश्मीर चाहिए तो उसे साथ ही बिहार भी लेना पड़ेगा। जहाँ तक मैंने पढ़ा है आपके फेसबुक के पोस्ट्स को उस हिसाब से मुझे ये व्यंग में कही बात लगी। लेकिन इस व्यंग के पीछे की भावना काफी नकारात्मक और एक पुरे राज्य को अपमानित करने की लगी। कहीं न कहीं आपकी इस “पेशकश” में से उस मानसिकता का बोध हुआ जो बिहार को इस देश पर एक बोझ या धब्बा मानता है। मैं बिहारी हूँ और आपको शायद लग रहा होगा कि इस वजह से आपकी बात ने मुझे आहत किया है, लेकिन ऐसा बिल्कुल नहीं है। मैं आहत बिल्कुल भी नहीं हूँ, बल्कि मुझे तरस आ रहा है। तरस आपकी उस अनभिज्ञता भरी सोच पर जिसकी वजह से आपके नज़रों में बिहार की ऐसी छवि है।
आपको लगा होगा कि बिहार को पाकिस्तान को देने से हमारे देश को कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ेगा, लेकिन फर्क आज मैं आपको बताता हूँ। अगर बिहार देश का हिस्सा नहीं रहा तो देश के हाथ से एक ऐसी विरासत छिन जायेगी जिसके ऊपर इस देश के लोकतंत्र की नींव पड़ी है। आप उस चंद्रगुप्त को भारत के इतिहास से छीन लेंगे जिसने पहली बार भारत की परिकल्पना को स्वरुप दिया था। आप शांति के प्रतीक बुद्ध की ज्ञानस्थली एक ऐसे देश को बना देंगे जिसका मुख्य कारोबार ही हिंसा है। आप उन सात शहीदों की जमीन, जिन्होंने अपनी जान एक तिरंगे के लिए गंवाई थी, एक ऐसे मुल्क को दे देना चाहते है जो एक आतंकवादी को अपना नायक मानते हैं। आप उस दिनकर को खो देंगे जो इस देश के राष्ट्रकवि हैं। क्या आपके मन में ऐसी विरासत को ठुकराते हुए हिचक नहीं होगी?
ये तो पुरानी बातें हुयी, वर्तमान की बात सुनिये। बिहार को गँवा कर आप उन नौजवानों की फौज को गँवा बैठेंगे जो इस देश की प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था में सबसे ज़्यादा योगदान करते हैं। आप उन कामगारों की मेहनत से हाथ धो बैठेंगे जिनके कर्मठ हाथों की वजह से इस देश के हर महानगर की तरक्की का पहिया घूमता है। और इन सब से ऊपर, आप उस रेजिमेंट को अपना नहीं कह सकेंगे जिस रेजिमेंट के फौजियों की जान कायर पाकिस्तानियों ने ली। जस्टिस मार्कण्डेय काटजू, क्या आप मज़ाक में भी उन शहीद सिपाहियों को एक पाकिस्तानी रेजिमेंट के सिपाही बताना चाहते हैं जिनकी हत्या की पाकिस्तानियों ने? जैसा कि मैंने कहा, मैं आहत नहीं हूँ। लेकिन मैं दुखी ज़रूर हूँ। इस बात से दुखी की जिस देश की हिफाज़त करने की राह में सैनिकों ने अपनी जान दी, आप उन्ही को उस देश के दुश्मन मुल्क को सौंपना चाहते हैं। ये कोई शिकायत नहीं है काटजू साहब और न ही आपको नीचा दिखाने की कोई कोशिश, मेरी कोशिश तो ये है कि बिहार की जैसी गलत छवि और हमारे खिलाफ जो भी पूर्वाग्रह आपके मन में है, उस के इतर आपको बिहार की सच्चाई से रूबरू कराया जाय। बिहार कोई दे दी जाने वाली वस्तु नहीं है, बिहार इस देश के स्तंभों में से एक है। भारत है तो बिहार है, बिहार है तो भारत है।
आपका ये भी कहना है कि बिहारियों के पास सेन्स ऑफ़ ह्यूमर की कमी है इस वजह से वो आपके इस व्यंग पर आपत्ति जता रहे हैं। इस विषय में मैं ये साफ़ कर दूँ कि दिक्कत मज़ाक से नहीं, उस मज़ाक के पीछे की मानसिकता की है। एक मज़ाक के लिबास में अगर दुर्भावना छिपी हो तो वो मज़ाक अपना मज़ा खो देता है। जब मज़ाक तंज बन जाये तो उस पर आपत्ति जायज़ है।

If a Boeing 747 is painted in different color, it would add 250 kgs of weight, but if just a white paint job is needed, it would not add more than 25 kgs. By painting the airplanes white, American Airlines saves over $2 million per year on fuel costs.

White color doesn’t fade away like other colors do. Moreover, maintaining and cleaning is pretty easy. Usually colored paints fade away owing to exposure to sun, particularly at 30,000 feet where there is more UV radiation.

The cost of painting the full body in color falls between $50k-$200k. No airline company would like to spend such a huge amount. Moreover, painting the planes in color consumes 2-3 weeks of time, which in turn causes loss of revenue in that period.
